"I have the power" like He-Man except that I work in a library
01-23-04 - 7:40 p.m.
My boss at the smaller library went away today. She'll be in Africa for a month. And that means ... I get to be the library director! I'm really making my way up the food chain. Just think, only a few months ago I was the random assignment guy. Now I run the whole place. Well, it's not that much of a place compared to Buswell, but still, it's a place. And I'm only part-time. Hooray for student workers. Hmm, this will look good on my resume. Speaking of resumes, my brother tells me one of my potential future employers will be at a job fair that's coming up soon. So even though I hate job fairs, I'm going to go because I'll know exactly what I'm there for. I'll march straight up to the Tyndale guy and say, "Hi, I want to be your copy editor," and he'll say, "You start tomorrow," and I'll say, "I can't because I have to run a library," and he'll say, "We'll wait for you," and I'll say, "Great," and then I will march back to the car and drive home. Speaking of weblogs (which we weren't, but you're reading one), I've suddenly become somewhat interested in them again. I sort of fell out of love with them and occupied myself with webcomics instead, but my sister started one, and reading it was fun, so I started reading some more. At Xanga there's a whole ring of blogs for my now-former school, so I'm reading one or two of those. Maybe I will get tired of it again. I'm in a different position this year than last year, not as lonely. The psychological mountain of school isn't crushing me under its weight, so I'm not in so much need of social support. This renewed interest doesn't mean I'll update more, though. That might happen once I get my site going again, which will probably be within the next month or two. I'm scared of it because that means I might have to actually ... interact with people. But if nobody visits or if I don't give them any way to leave feedback, that should take care of that! :) Nerdy reference book acquisitions of the month: The Norton/Grove Concise Encyclopedia of Music (which I really got for Christmas) Merriam-Webster's Encyclopedia of Literature The Encyclopedia of Science Fiction Sometime when I'm ready to try composing in genres foreign to me, I will get the All Music Guide book, which reviews popular music albums, so I will know what to listen to (without having to be online to read the website). That's not as nerdy, but it's still a reference book.
