creeping along in predatory fashion
02-02-04 - 7:20 p.m.
Well, my job hunt is progressing. I'm about to turn in a resume to Crossway for their copyediting position. I'll try to do Tyndale's this week, too. The word for this week is "active." I am trying to be an active job hunter. I've never been one before, mostly because my jobs have never been hard to get before. For all I know, this one won't be either, but I'm reading What Color Is Your Parachute?, and Richard Bolles says to be active, so I'm going to follow his advice. Different people seem to have different definitions of "active," however. Bolles says to e-mail and mail your resume, call a week later, and write thank you notes after the interview to everyone you met at the place. I looked at another book yesterday that said you should call the hiring person before you even submit your resume, and your cover letter should reflect your conversation. That's just too much for me, at least in this case. The employer already knows I'm coming because my friend told him about me, so there doesn't seem to be much else to say before the interview. Bolles says not to let them try to interview you over the phone because that's one way they try to weed people out early. So anyway, my assignment for tonight is to get my resume and cover letter finished so I can turn them in tomorrow. The topic of job hunting belongs in my "life-maintenance" category, which means that it is necessary but boring. Therefore, I will try not subject you to too much of it.
