powers

Ah, a Diaryland entry. I just finished the first volume of a comic book series called Powers, which I got from the public library. It was interesting. It was along the same lines as most of the other modern DC comics I've read: somewhat cynical and gritty, tried to make the people and dialogue more realistic, treated the superpeople like real people and explored their private lives, innovative in its art techniques. I'm not an art critic, but I did notice that they used the basically same panels more than once with different dialogue. I'm not sure what point they were making, if any. I doubt they were just being lazy. It had some interesting effects, though. Sometimes having a character stay still can be an effective way of conveying the character's emotion. Anyway, I liked it enough to pick up any other volumes I see in that series.
